Treacle the fox red Labrador was 7 years old when she was first referred for physiotherapy after a discovery that she had hip dysplasia. We initially set out to help her manage this, however things took a sudden turn for the worst. A few months in, Treacle sustained a cranial cruciate ligament injury in one of her backlegs- this is a very common injury in dogs and unfortunately in Treacle’s case, required surgery to help fix this. Sadly, the same injury occurred in the other backleg not long after meaning she now required double knee surgery. This was arranged to be done at the same time- a very big procedure indeed.

Treacle battled with her long rehabilitation, which was not plain sailing with lots of set backs and a revision surgery needing to take place. Despite it all, Treacle’s owners were extremely dedicated to her progression and now, a year on, she is doing better than ever! Her rehabilitation involved careful exercises to help her not only get used to her new-and-improved knee joints, but also to keep her hip joints comfortable. Treacle suffered a lot of compensatory soreness through her back and forearms, which we managed with heat, massage and stretches. One modality which has proved to be extremely beneficial for Treacle is therapeutic ultrasound, which her owner’s use at home to help keep her joints free and mobile.

Treacle has overcome injuries and conditions which many humans would struggle to bounce back from and now, she enjoys being back out on her long walks with her canine friends. Her owner says…

“We couldn’t thank Lauren enough for her assistance and guidance through the whole process. More importantly Treacle absolutely adores Lauren and gets excited every time she sees her which means I am at ease knowing she is in safe hands.

Treacle’s mobility on a whole has improved dramatically; while we appreciate she will never be able to fully recover, she has a much better quality of life now and being outdoors is where she is happiest.

Thank you Lauren for all you have done for our Treacle”.
